Introduction

Hi  -

May I introduce myself?  This page is to do with my work in the textile and art field.

I have always made things since way back when, but my opportunity to seriously explore art, colour, form and shape only came when I did my first City & Guilds course.  During this time I was learning to "see" differently and, whilst handling lots of fabrics, learning to appreciate feel, texture and colour and how any of these can inspire and influence our well-being.

I am really grateful to the Embroiderers' Guild and the start it gave me many years ago to attend workshops and learn new techniques as well as honing old ones and getting to know some textile artists.   In amongst the workshops were also the annual exhibitions - my first taste of showing my work to the wider public:  for me, it was a bit like giving birth or baring one's soul.  I also learnt that it is kinder not to make negative comments about any piece of work - it's quite possible that the maker may stand right next to you...

It was while I was trying to chat to a new acquaintance about  joining the Guild that I learnt that she was studying textile art.  While she visited my house she saw my work and  suggested that I should join the local artists' group ArtWey, which is how this all started.   That was in 2009 - not that long ago.

So,  since 2009 I've been showing my work in exhibitions locally and, above all, making more of the sort of thing that really gives me pleasure and challenges my comfort-zones, going down avenues I never imagined.  Every time I embark on a project I end up somewhere slightly different from where I expected to be and with several more ideas for future work!  Some of it actually gets made, but a lot is still in my head, waiting to emerge.

I hope you like my work when you click on the different menu items.  If you fall in love with any of it, please make a note of the name of the piece and go to "Shopping Cart", where you can see further details regarding size, type of framing and cost (at the moment, this page is still under construction).

Instead of doing a blog, I have decided to put new work and other things I like and think about on my Facebook page, which is www.facebook.com/ingrid.ellis399.  Unfortunately you will be asked to register and sign in, but I hope you like those bits too!

Enjoy!
